In clear weather you can see Roskilde Cathedral from the east side of Lyndby church
Admittedly, it does not have the size of a cathedral, but it is a remarkably large church for a relatively small parish. A few years ago, archaeologists from Roskilde Museum found the remains of a market square from the Viking Age and early Middle Ages on a meadow east of the church, and the site must also have been a favorable charging site. This is probably where we need to seek the explanation of the size of the church.
It is probably the youngest of the Bramsnæs churches, but we are still talking about a Romanesque building from before the year 1200, which we can see from the now walled round arched windows and portals in the choir and nave. It is built of rubble, ie source lime, like the other churches, and the rubble blocks are carefully hewn. Like so many other churches, Lyndby was vaulted in the 14th and 15th centuries, while the tower was first built in the 1830s. Romanesque baptismal font, the altarpiece is moderately baroque, but late, from around the year 1700, the center field represents the Last Supper and is a diminished copy of the altarpiece in Ringsted's Sct. Bent's Church. The chair stands are from Caspar Lubbeke's workshop in Roskilde from around 1650. Lubbeke has supplied chair seats for many churches in Roskilde's catchment area. Some of the most interesting furniture in Lyndby church is the antemensalet, ie the front of the altar table. It is late Gothic, approx. 1510, and the front, which stands out most of the church year, depicts the worship of the kings. The frame is decorated with textile motifs. We have several examples of the front page here in the area probably created by the same workshop, i.a. in Hvalsø church and Hagested. Hagested's antemensale is at the National Museum. But Lyndbys is still sitting where it has been for approx. 600 years.
